hug icons

i really needed a good hugging icon, so i went looking for images. i still don't have exactly what i'm looking for (a serious band boy hug), but i made a few anyway, and figured i'd share them, in case anyone wanted one.

also, i know there is a photo out there of gerard way wearing a sign that says 'free hugs'. does anyone have that? i couldn't find it.

Spirit Day

Originally posted by neo_prodigy at Spirit Day

It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

Title: Ficlet 1: Mikeyway
Rating: Lots of swearing, no porn.
Fandom: Bandom/Pern Crossover
Pairing: None. Yet.
Words: 1,879
Disclaimer: Not even a little bit real. Dammit.
Summary: It's Journeyman Healer Mikey's first day at Benden Weyr.
Warnings: More cheese than these guys could ever truly be capable of on their own.
Notes: My first bandom story! (Kind of.) This is probably the Pern 'verse I will always write in, and right now I'm not sure what to call it without being spoilery, so for now it'll just be my 'verse. It turns out I suck pretty hard at posting actual fic, and since I have this whole huge 'verse in my head, I'm just going to post little ficlets in it. Also, you should know that there is a whole lot of handwaving going on all over this thing. Shhh, don't tell.

Thanks to reni_days  for the beta and constant hand-holding, and to miss_diverse  for the read-through. =)

toast on the rampage

reni_days  and i were talking after i came home from work last night, and we got onto the topic of how jumpy some people are, and she can be, and i used to be. and then, specifically, about how jumpy the toaster can make a person.

like, you know it's coming, okay, but it still scares the shit out of you when the toast pops up. you'll even be talking yourself down the whole time, like "it's just toast, it can't hurt me," and then the toast pops up and you scream and jump a foot off the ground, like it was all, "DIE, BREAKFAST-EATING SCUM!"

and the whole thing was really stupid but we laughed really hard at ourselves, and i couldn't get the picture of violently homicidal toast out of my head, so made a picture. =D

best cookies ever

modified a bit from a recipe found on the kraft foods site.

2 pkg devil's food (or just chocolate, really) cake mix
1/2 c peanut butter
8 oz (1 pkg) cream cheese
2 eggs
about 3/4 bag of chocolate chips
little bit of sugar

if you don't have a hand mixer and you're not an arm wrestling champ, give up now.

for the record, these ingredients are a bitch to mix and it'll take a while, but it's so worth it. the final product is super crumbly.

grab a handful of crumbs and squish/roll them into a ball. place it onto an ungreased baking sheet (i like to put parchment paper on top of my cookie sheet first, so that i can just slide it off when the cookies are done, and put the next batch on). repeat many times. gently press with a fork, then press again so there's a criss-cross pattern on top (like a peanut butter cookie). sprinkle top with a little bit of sugar.

bake at 350 for about 7 minutes.

i'm sure there's a way to make these gluten-free, but the cream cheese is really necessary to the recipe. i'll probably do some experimenting when we go gluten-free again and re-post the recipe that way.

in the meantime, enjoy! =)

quickie post

i was thinking about funnel cake all day today. i blame mrsquizzical. mmmmm. funnel cake.

so i searched for a gluten-free recipe, and found a universal one! \o/

1 1/4 cups flour
(i used 3/4 cup sweet rice flour & 1/2 cup sorghum flour)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2/3 cup milk (i used vanilla rice milk)

mix thoroughly and put in a quart size baggie (easier than pouring the batter through a funnel, i think). heat 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil in a skillet on medium-low. cut a small hole in the corner of the baggie and squeeze batter into the hot oil (in whatever shape you want, however big you want it!) and cook until golden brown on that side (usually about 2 minutes) and then flip it over. cook for another couple of minutes and serve with cherry pie filling and/or powdered sugar on top! or whatever you like on top, really.

the coconut oil will get hotter the longer the pan sits on the stove, so you may find that you'll need to keep turning the heat down lower and lower.

here is a crappy camera phone picture of my half-eaten funnel cake, because i didn't think to take one when it was shiny and whole. oops.

and now? back to real life.

ps i miss you guys.
